Management software for a cable TV distributor in Cameroon: what it should do

Updated 4 November 2026 · 5 min read

If you run a cable TV agency, you probably started with a notebook. At some point there are too many subscribers to follow by hand. Here is what management software should do to really help you, and how to choose it.

Why the notebook reaches its limits

A notebook works as long as the agency is small. As subscribers, zones and collectors multiply, the same problems come back: a torn or lost page, late subscribers nobody follows up, handwritten receipts, disconnections decided without any written trace.

The real risk is not the mess, it is the money you cannot see: a subscriber who paid but whose payment was never noted, another who owes three months without anyone knowing.

The six needs of a cable TV distributor

Good management software must cover, at the very least:

  • One record per subscriber, sorted by zone, with a status: up to date, late or to disconnect.
  • Payment collection: cash, Mobile Money, deposits, several months in advance, with the calculation done for you.
  • Receipts that can be printed or sent to the subscriber.
  • Follow-up of unpaid bills: who has not renewed, how much they owe, and a simple way to remind them.
  • The collectors’ cash: what each one collected and what each one handed in.
  • Access rights by role: the owner, the cashier, the collector and the technician should not see the same things.

Criteria for choosing

  • It works on a phone: it is the tool you always have with you, in the field and at the office.
  • It stays light on a slow network: a page that takes a minute to open will never be used.
  • It takes over what you already have: you must be able to import your subscribers from an Excel file instead of retyping everything.
  • It separates rights: a collector must not be able to change the owner’s cash.
  • Your data belongs to you: you can export it at any time.
  • You can try it before buying: a free trial lets you check that the tool fits the way you work.
  • Someone can answer you: help on WhatsApp is more realistic than e-mail support.

Moving from the notebook to software without breaking everything

  1. Gather your subscribers in a simple Excel file (name, phone, zone, plan, last payment).
  2. Start with one zone or one collector to check that everything is consistent.
  3. Keep the notebook in parallel for the first weeks, then compare the two.
  4. When the figures match, move all zones to the software and stop the notebook.
